Odisha Govt plans to amend cow slaughter prevention act: CM Mohan Majhi
The chief minister was speaking at the ‘Monsoon Meet 2024’ being hosted for the first time in the State by the union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
Haryana government has constituted an Animal Welfare Board for implementation of various legislations including the one prohibiting cow slaughter in the state.
A spokesman of Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department said the Animal Welfare Board would be to ensure proper implementation of ‘Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, 1960’, the Punjab Prohibition of Cow Slaughter (Haryana Amendment) Act, 1980 and the Cattle Trespass Act, 1871 and other Acts or regulations for animal welfare applicable to Haryana.
The other functions of the Board will be to coordinate activities relating to the preservation and development of cattle for increasing the production of milk and draft power, to organise and coordinate the activities related to the development of cattle wealth.

It will also work for establishment of Gaushalas (shelter homes for cows) and coordinate as well as review various schemes relating to increasing production of feed and fodder, salvage of dry cattle, rearing of calves, rounding up of stray cattle and their proper rehabilitation.
The Board will review the progress of schemes relating to preservation and development of cattle in the light of coordinated programme and policy laid down for the country and to consider such additions and alternations to the programme as may be found necessary in the light of the experience gained.
The Board will work under the chairmanship of additional chief secretary, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and its headquarter would be at Chandigarh.
The Board would meet quarterly and its term would be two years, but the government may extend period or dissolve or reconstitute it at an earlier date.
